Educational Performances
Davalois's Dance Academy educates children on the joys of choreography, which is the act of inventing steps and movements. Through dance, one can express themselves and feel empowered and connected to their ancestral bloodline. When dancing, one is able to reach a state of power and joy, free from self-judgment and full of acceptance. The physical exertion of moving one's bones, joints, and muscles is a true form of living and brings with it a sense of pure joy. Dance is a gift that allows us to feel a sense of belonging and ownership of our lives and choices.
Each performance is followed by a discussion that focuses on the techniques of chorography and project creation. The educational performance closes with an added layer of awareness and engagement by inviting participants to learn dance movements associated with each of these pathways to provide an embodied experience as a means to increase the impact of the message behind the work.
