Dance Community Workshops
DFD workshops are for all ages and dance backgrounds; no prior experience in dance is necessary. Each class has a particular focus, ranging from yoga/dance/somatics-based functional movement classes to dancehall and dance aerobics classes. The DFD Celebrates Jamaican Independence workshop is based on the Finding Herstory Project. It will feature the underpinning Afro-Jamaican movement vocabulary of “KERNEL.” Participants will be invited on a dancing journey through the evolution of Dancehall from Kumina to Ska to Reggae and Dancehall from 1940 to the present day.
